The health condition of Bangladesh’s two-time former Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia remains “very critical” for the third consecutive day, according to the medical board at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.

Reports published by India Today, Al Jazeera, The Daily Star, Daily Sun, and Prothom Alo English confirm that despite intensive treatment, her condition has not shown significant improvement.

Improvement in Three Days

Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital on 23 November 2025 after she suddenly developed acute breathing difficulties. She was initially taken to a cabin but was quickly shifted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) as her condition worsened.

Doctors have reported complications involving her lungs, heart, and kidneys, along with long-standing liver disease, diabetes, and other chronic conditions.
Daily Sun reports that her kidney function remains low, while fluid accumulation and lung infection have significantly strained her breathing.

The medical team describes her condition as “extremely fragile. She is responding to treatment, but her overall condition remains very critical. Any improvement or deterioration can occur at any moment.

International Media

India Today has described her state as “very, very critical,”
while Al Jazeera reports that severe respiratory complications and cardiac stiffness have intensified her medical challenges.

The Daily Star confirms that Khaleda Zia is still not medically fit to travel, despite efforts by her family to arrange better treatment abroad.

Overseas Treatment Caution

Family sources indicate that they are prepared to take the former Prime Minister to London or Singapore once her condition stabilizes.
However, the hospital’s medical board has stated clearly that she is not yet fit for travel.

Her family members have been staying at the hospital continuously, consulting with doctors and closely monitoring her treatment.

The Nation Express Deep Concern

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that her condition is extremely critical. We request the nation to pray for her recovery.

Prayer gatherings have been held across the country following Friday prayers, reflecting the deep emotional and political significance of Khaleda Zia’s leadership.

As a two-time Prime Minister, Khaleda Zia played a crucial role in Bangladesh’s democratic transition, multi-party political development, and institution-building. Her illness has evoked sympathy and concern not only from political supporters but also from the general public.

Impact on the National Political Landscape

With the national elections expected in early 2026, political analysts suggest that her prolonged illness could influence the internal dynamics of BNP and the broader political environment.

As a symbolic leader of the party and a central figure in Bangladesh’s political evolution, her current condition has heightened uncertainty at a pivotal moment in national politics.

For now, the nation waits anxiously for further updates from the medical board.

Questions remain regarding her stability, the possibility of overseas treatment, and the implications for BNP’s future leadership decisions.

Meanwhile, people across Bangladesh continue to pray for the recovery of one of the country’s most prominent and respected political figures.
